What is PBL?

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a whole school program that actively promotes positive behaviour. It is based on the principles of Positive Behavioural Interventions and Support (PBIS) and is a long term (3-5 year) process to create safer and more effective schools. It enables students to develop a clear understanding of required expectations, become responsible for their own behaviour and work together to create a positive, productive and harmonious learning community.  Our school wide expectations are represented by our C.A.R.E.S. values. C.A.R.E.S. is an acronym for Cooperate, Achieve, Respect, Encourage and Safe. Each one of these values is represented with a mascot.

PBL is a data driven program. Therefore, what we learn from the data, such as, specific inappropriate behaviours which we need to address, effects what we do throughout the school in PBL. The staff meet on a weekly basis to review the data and organise the implementation of PBL. Each week, the school will have an area of focus that involves explicit teaching and support of positive behaviours. Teachers and students will participate in lessons that involve discussion, role-play and reflection.  The behaviour expectations are presented in the form of a Student Expectations Matrix.

Teachers use coloured Menai Minis in all areas of the school when they observe students displaying positive behaviour. Please refer to our Positive Award System for further information.
